Rhonda ReyesDirector of Christian Education

Deacon Rhonda E. Chapman-Reyes is a born again Disciple of Jesus Christ who embraces the word “Christian” as a way of life and not a badge or a bumper sticker. Guided by love, she is a person who leads with humility and with an overall focus of concern for others.

Deacon Reyes was born in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Deacon Oliver S. Chapman Sr. and Elder/Mother Ruby L. Chapman as the youngest of three children. Following in the footsteps of her parents, her father served as Chairman of the Deacon Board for more than ten years and her mother as Deaconess. Currently she is an Elder and also a Mother of the Church. Deacon Reyes made history at Berean when she was ordained as the first female Deacon.

As a Philadelphia native, Deacon Reyes was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System and at the Palmer Theological Seminary (now known as Palmer Theological Seminary of Eastern University). Professionally, Deacon Reyes has been employed for over 40 years at The Department of Treasury Internal Revenue Service where she is currently an Information Technology Specialist.

Her Christian experience is extensive. Presently, she is the Director of Christian Education at Berean. Her previous positions include Youth Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Superintendent of the entire Sunday School Ministry, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, adult leader and a member of the Sisters Discipleship Ministry, the Young Adult, Youth & Junior Choirs and Usher Boards.

Deacon Reyes has been the keynote speaker at the church’s Women’s Ministry Retreat and Women’s Breakfasts.

Deacon Reyes was assigned by the Pastor the task of reviewing and updating the church’s teaching techniques, and as a result she created a new teacher’s curriculum for inclusion in the church’s New Teacher’s Academy.

Deacon Reyes is married to Deacon Harvey O. Reyes and they are the proud parents of two children – Kyhree Sr. and Shaquanna and grandparents of Kyhree Jr. and Brooklynn.

Deacon Reyes’ favorite scripture is Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper ….”
